MY STORY

I'm a strategic communications specialist with over 25 years of experience creating, building, and executing impactful communications strategies across sectors - from not-for-profit and government to financial services and global corporates.

My career began in the not-for-profit world, where I learned how to drive maximum impact with minimal resources. I quickly understood the value of clear goals, authentic relationships, and the importance of delivering the right message, to the right audience, at the right time—lessons that have stayed with me throughout my career.

In 1998, I moved to London for a short adventure that turned into a decade-long journey. What started as a detour quickly became a career in financial services - an industry I initially underestimated, but soon came to love. My time in London included roles in internal communications, media relations, and ultimately crisis communications. Following the September 11 attacks, I found myself representing the insurance industry to global media - an experience that shaped my understanding of high-stakes communication and the value of trusted media relationships.

From there, I joined GE Insurance Solutions, where I expanded my expertise to include marketing communications and event management. Eventually, I was asked to head the external communications function across Europe, the Middle East, and Asia Pacific. While at GE, I undertook leadership training at Crotonville and the Kellogg School of Management, and was invited to join activation taskforces supporting the launch of GE's new brand and its sponsorship of the Beijing Olympics. I later joined Genworth Financial as Director of Communications in Europe and was soon promoted to Vice President, International Communications. I led internal and external communications, brand and digital strategies, through the turbulence of the Global Financial Crisis.

Returning to Australia in 2008, I entered the resources sector with BHP. Initially contracted to help rebuild their website and restructure the communications team, I later continued consulting with them after a maternity break. These projects laid the foundation for my consultancy, SmallFishBig.

Since launching SmallFishBig, I’ve partnered with a wide range of clients, including PwC, Scyne Advisory, Vicinity, the University of Melbourne, and the World Psychiatric Association - helping each deliver clear, compelling, and effective communications.

What I offer is simple: strategic, tailored communications that cut through the noise and deliver results.
